Default Hmmmm out of warranty and I think I need my 4th Rear main seal

will try a new dealer to see what the warranty is on Audi repairs and given this will be the 4th one in as many years, I think Cactus or the mechanics have an issue

Default that's pretty bad. maybe something else is wrong?

I'm no S4 engine expert but maybe something is wrong with the breather system? You don't want positive pressure on the engine oil because it's hell on the seals. Just an idea the dealer should consider.

Default What are your symptoms?

I think I have the same problem but dealer said it wasn't bad enough to worry about yet. Then he said all Audis leak...its cool...heheh. I can see the oil residue but its not enough to where its leaking on the ground yet.

I know well eventually it will get worse but I figure I'm certified and have 2 years left on warranty so it should be cool.

Good Luck with yours!

Default the belly pan is Audi's friend hides all the nasties

lots of oil between the transmission/motor, lots of oil on the belley pan, and lots of residue on the oil pan and other areas down there (sway bar etc).

Default Yea thats where mine is leaking...

Its almost impossible to find where its coming from but I bet its the rear main seal. Had Audi look at it and got the "Within Spec" default answer...not sure how bad it has to get in order for it to be "out of spec". I'll keep an eye on it?

Default There is no "within spec" for oil leaks.. That is BS and would callAOA immediately

They use gaskets and seals for a reason, the engine should remain clean. If there is substantial oil that is not within spec.

I have had 3 rear main seals, 1 or 2 upper oil sump pump seals, oil return line gaskets lower oil pan gasket. My car appeared to be clean for about 6 months (bottom of car, no oil), now it's spuging again.

Again any oil leak is an issue, there is no "within spec when relating to oil leaks".. Seriously bro, make some calls!

If it's the rear mainseal and it get's really bad, you will get oil on your flywheel and clutch and could cause a scary situation if you can't motor your way out of someplace due to the clutch giving out, due to Audi incompetence

Default belly pan even has self cleaning feature

The plastic pan has a naca style duct in the center to blow all of the residual oil out of the pan while you're driving. THat way it doesn't drip on your driveway and cause AoA warranty issues.

Default Take a look at the pictures in my poster....

I uploaded 4 pics that I snapped really quick. It was hard to get a good angle on ramps and it was a bit cold out

Anyways...its not really bad and it hasn't decreased or worsened since I noticed it, but I agree I don't like having the leak. If you guys think its bad enough to make a stink about I"ll give my dealer a call back and see what they say and go from there. They are pretty good to work with so I'm sure they will do what is right.

Thanks

Default There is no doubt you have a bad rear main seal, and if that

is what it looked like when you brought it in, find a new dealer, file a complaint and go smack the incompetent mechanic in the head, that lazy POS!!

And while your there, take a quick shot at the head up the regional reps *** service manager as well. Until I find a dealer who actually means "We care more about the customer then AOA" I will start adding caveats, but right now, it's all of them!
