how are the Autospeed pulleys

I understand the Theory. But you are comparing what ..
happened a long time ago to a different engine design, different Camshaft, different length blocks etc etc, not to mention older technology. Something must be said for that as well.

no. harmonics will never change. there has to be something to lessen their effect or your looking
at unchecked harmonics pounding your bearings, fatiguing your crank, and decreasing the efficiency of the motor by inducing more internal friction. No matter how good the balance of the rotating mass may be there will always be resonance to the assembly, that why it is cruical to have a dampener.

harmonics are harmonics regardless of the passage of time.
do we have a balancing apparatus on our cars, yes. So it follows that the dampener is necessary. Remove it or alter it without the alteration of the other attached component and it is now out of balance. capice?

jeez I hate this....
Steve Dinan is mostly refering to BMW's Inline 6 cars, M/S 50/52s to be exact. They have been known to get "hairline" cracks in the crankshaft if run with BOTH UD pully AND lightweight flywheel...this was actually not discovered by Dinan but it happened to a few of Will Turner's cars in the World challenge...these are Race cars that spend most of the time between 5-7K rpm. This article does not apply to other cars but people KEEP posting it. *sigh*
I have run UD pulleys in my M3s in the past with NO PROBLEMS as long as i kept the stock Flywheel....same is true the other way around.
There has only been one person who claims having had a problem in their S4 if i recall...and even still "the" problem can't be attributed to the pulley itself...there is too much spewing of mis-information.

true, but tolerances are different in EVERY engine and so are the harmonic frequencies.
Many engines can happily get away with runnin UD pulleys with every other mod out there...the big fear of these came from horror stories started by BMW motors having issues, it could be TOTALLY different on the 2.7T which has a MUCH shorter crankshaft.
