Default How to bleed coolant system? Are there 3 separate bleeders?

What is the procedure?

I have an air lock that is preventing my heat from working. I first opened the bleeder beside the throttle body (to the right of it). I let the car warm up until coolant started flowing out that bleeder, and I closed it. I then pulled off the heater hose by the battery so that the bleeder hole was exposed and let it run like that for a while with the heat on. No coolant was flowing though. Now I have SOME heat, which is better than the none I had before, but I obviously still have some air in the system that I need to get rid of.

I have been told there is a THIRD BLEEDER (another screw). Where is it located? Am I following the proper procedure for getting air out of the system.

Also, I need to drain all of the coolant from the system (because it has a lot of water in it), including from the block. How would I do this? I was just going to pull the lower rad hose, but I have been told both the block and the rad hose have a drain plug? I do not have a bentley. Should I re-bleed after I re-fill? What is the proper mix of G12 and H20?

Thanks!

Default It's like you're posting for me...G12 is 50/50 mixed with distilled for -30 degree protection.

Which is what I used. I saw -18 here last winter.

I am about to go outside and do the exact same thing you did unless my Bentley tells me otherwise. I'll let you know.

Default I located the third one on the back of the engine as well but on my 2000 (early) I have

a line that runs up to the overflow tank. I used Bentley as a reference and I was in the right spot.

Default Is this bleeder missing on the 2001.5? I'm using Bentley and I cannot

find that thing to save my life.

Yes there is only the front one, I found that out on my 01.5 the tank has extra bleeder line to it from the back of the head were the after run sensor is, that is how mine is

Default There is a drain screw on the back of the block on the driver side where the bell housing...

and block meet up. IIRC it is a 6mm hex.

To drain the radiator, you just unclip the lower hose.

Default You need to bleed while refilling, in order, lowest to highest

Heater hose bleeder hole first--fill until coolant comes out.
Rear, driver's side bleeder next--fill until...
Front bleeder last--ditto
Close the last one and top off as necessary.
