Default how do I defeat turbo lag?

The MTM chip is a sure-fire kick in the pants! When those turbos spool up, hold on for dear life! The other day, however, I raced against a kid with an AWD Turbo Talon running something like 20 psi (I didn't know this when I lined up with him)... thinking it was going to be an easy kill, I neglected to launch (wanted to give him a chance) ... he handed my *** to me on a silver platter. Every time I'd hook up with boost, though, I'd reel him in... what frustrated me was that there was a ton of lag to get to this sticky sweet boost. My next step is exhaust & a K&N .. will this help? Has anyone toyed around with the idea of a boost controller? Or is there some sort of tuning I can do with a VAG tool and a laptop that can change the delivery of boost? TIA!

I would think a lighter flywheel would help. APR?

Default Exhaust and filter will help and I hear the Bailey valves keep...

the boost up a little more between boosts so less lag there. Will post my opinions when I get them on in a couple of weeks.

Default I think it's just your launch technique. How are you launching the car?

Even if you are getting the perfect start, there will always be someone in something faster. It's just the way things work!
Nick Snyder

Default Gotta switch gears faster... Did you think about the shortshifter upgrade? I do not have the same

problem though.. If you switch fast enough, the boost should come and stay on the whole time...

Default Turbo lag? On an S4?!?!

I've been thinking of going with an S4 because it HAS no turbo lag (at least compared to a 225 TTQC...)

Default that's what the VM2 was designed to do.

Decreasing turbo spool-up was the specific idea behind the dual-pipe design of the VelociMax II exhaust. By keeping exhaust velocity consistent (instead of slowing it down in the turbulence of a standard 2-into-1 design), the turbos spool up much quicker. This results in power being produced much more quickly.

See http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/html_product/audi_velocimax/index.htm for more details.

These are in stock and available for immediate shipping.

If the Talon had a modest level of mods and the driver knew what he was
doing, it wouldn't have made any difference even if you'd launched: you
would still have lost. The only advantage you have in your chipped S4 is an
extra gear. On the negative side is an extra 500lbs you have to carry since
the S4 is grossly overweight.

FYI, the 90-99 turbo dsm's (Talon, Eclipse) came with ~210hp out of the box
and do low-mid 15's in the 1/4 mile. With the addition of just an air
filter, cat-back, and manual boost controller, they can do high 13's in the
1/4. The second-generation dsm's (95-99) came with a smaller t25 factory
turbo, which is inefficient at boost levels much above stock (14psi); that's
why so many of us upgrade to a larger turbo. My '97 awd Talon has a 16g
(ported, unclipped), and at 12psi it feels much stronger than the stock t25
did at 17psi. So when you say "running something like 20 psi" that could
mean vastly different things depending upon the type of turbo used. Also
keep in mind the Talon almost certainly had to contend with worse lag than
you. }:0

S4 content: does anyone know specs for the stock S4 turbos? e.g. size of
exhaust and compressor wheels, etc. At what psi do they start to lose
efficiency?
