I happened across a few today during some spirited driving...didn't race any due to traffic.
Saw several with a 2.5 badge and 2 doors. Is the WRX a 4-door sedan only?
How do I know when I meet up with one of the WRX's with the high performance engine?
Oh, and this car is truely awesome in the wet. We had a few downpoors which left the back roads slick (North Eastern, Jersey). What a blast to punch it after the apex of a corner and not slip one teensy bit!

Either way you will beat them if they are stock. But I've seen some crazy scoobies running around that are quite capable of 12 sec 1/4 miles.

if you can't tell by the "unique" headlights and hoodscoop (only WRX's have the scoop now)
then the WRX badge on the back
or foglights up front, should be a give away
RS 2.5's don't come with factory Foglights
also the Wagons (like mine) don't have flared fenders

"That's sufficient to get the new 3130-lb. 4-door to 60 mph in an impressive 5.7 seconds and to the quarter-mile mark in 14.4 seconds at 95.4 mph."
S4 from Road and Track says:
0-60 - 5.5sec
1/4 mile 14.1 sec.
All "S" owners can relax....We won't get burned!

Do not despise the 2.5RS.
For each single 2.5RS, after stage III upgrade, can easily beat an stage I chipped S4.
The 0-60mph of stage III 2.5RS can reach 4.5-4.7 secs.

I have an S4 on order, which should arrive later this week. Was at the Subaru dealer with a friend of mine who is buying an Outback, and decided to take the WRX for a spin. Wanted to see if I could justify the extra $15k I will be paying for the S4.
Test results? The WRX is a fun car to drive! Fun to fling around corners, and really sticks to the road.
Did I cancel my order for the S4 and buy the WRX? NO WAY MAN!!!!
First off, the WRX interior is not even close to the refined interior of the S4. (No suprise there I guess.) The WRX was fun to drive, but the S4 definitely felt quicker and the handling was more precise than the WRX.
Peak torque on the WRX is 217 lb/ft at 4000 rpm. No contest with the S4's 258 lb/ft at 1850 rpm. The WRX is about 500 lbs lighter than the S4 though.
I test drove a WRX with a number of performance upgrades that pushed the price of the car to about 33k. So now we are talking about a 7k difference in price with the S4. I can easily justify spending the extra 7k for the S4!
However, there are a number of nice factory options you can get with the WRX that I would like to have, but can not get with the S4 (except for after-market) including:
* short-throw shifter
* performance gauge pack (w/ boost gauge)
* 6-disc in-dash CD player
The WRX I drove also had the following options:
* performance muffler
* performance suspension (STi)
* 17" BBS allow wheels
The WRX was fun to drive, but it just felt like a cheap toy compared to the character and refinement of the S4. Now I am more anxious than ever for my S4! Later this week hopefully...

if the 1/4 mile time is within a tenth or 2
it will be something you have to EARN
