How do y'all explain to your gf/wife that it makes sense to modify a $40K car?

To be married with those conditions is unexceptable. I'm married 35+ yrs.
She's happy and so am I .. It's a question of who leads.. If you are a considerate and kind person that supports your wife your hobby expenses should not be a big concern for her.

Tell her a $40K car modded to $60k will still ouperform most $80k cars...............
so you just saved $20k and that you were planning on using that money to buy her a stunning diamond necklace.

how about this---
"look honey, if I spend $20,000.00 on mods I will not only devalue my car so that it's worth maybe $5,000.00 but I will also void our warranty" she will dismiss you as totally crazy...

Move the decimal point on all purchases over one spot to the left....
oh, for the exhaust...just tell her you replaced the exposed pipes only for appearance...it was $100 - you see, the decimal thing works fine..there is no way she's getting under the car...

everyone's situation is different...
I let my wife spend very freely, as long as it is a joint decision.
I run any "major" purchase by her out of respect..and really do have the last say..but I like getting laid, so...I honor her feelings..
sounds like that is not a priority for you....given the amount of time you have been married.
