some sales rep kept pushing me for the 225/40/18, and told me that the 225 is better than the 235.
is that true? or......?
putting that on the 18" Kahn Rss.

A 235/40 is enough bumpier than stock that I plan to go back to a 225/45 for my next set of road tires.

Right now I have 225/40/18 on 18x8.5ET32 rims, stock suspension. It looks like there would be plenty of room for a wider tire. here are some calculations:
225/45/17 (Stock)
H=25", W=8.9"
225/40/18 (the most popular size on AW)
H=25.1", W=8.9"
Actually w/ Pilot Sports its more like 25.2". and the same width as stock so it will look strechted out on a 8.5" wide rim, although I have been told that these pilot sports will work on a 9" rim.
235/40/18
H=25.4", W=9.3"
I wouldn't go this way. Too tall, impacts your gear ratios/speedo, and you will probably have to roll fenders if you lower.
245/35/18
H=24.8", W=9.6"
This will probably work pretty well, but a little shorter in height.
255/35/18
H=25", W=10"
This would actually be my preference. It doesn't look to me like it would rub w/ stock suspension. and at least one person on this board said it wont. But others said it might. I cant get a definitive answer on this. But I think it would be the best. Same Height as stock and 1 inch wider.
But to answer your question, 235/40/18 is not the perfect option.

Don't remember exactly the contents of your email (i'm at school right now), but yes, your car with stock ride height will have absolutely no problems with 245/35 18. AFAIK, Pirelli P-Zeros and some other no name brand make the 245/35 for street radials.
I'm lowered >1.5" and it only rubs on high speed dips. I may raise the car a bit (I have H&R Coilovers), but I think I'm just going to roll the fenders. That should easily take care of it since when it does rub, it's never severe. I would prefer a 35mm offset, but don't worry, they'll wrap around our RXII's quite nicely. Even with a conservative drop, you'll still be fine. Not sure about the 255/35's however. I'm even willing to speculate that with a 255/35 18 and stock ride height, it will not rub (even with 3 passengers on hard cornering). Do me a favor, put the 255's on, drop your car and let me know how it goes![Big Grin](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
