Default How to get a wheel off?

Stock Avus wheel has been on since new, time to rotate but wheel won't come off hub, never had this problem with other Audis. Used a mallet, but if I hit the darn thing any harder I am going to bend the rim. Yes I did take the bolts out first!

Default Loosen all the bolts...but don't take them off, leave them in and hand snug

set the car back down on the wheel and let the car roll forward. If it's a steerable wheel you can can turn the wheel a bit with the tire on the ground. Jack it back up and take the bolts out...you should be able to get the wheel out now. Put some anti-seize on the hub when you put the wheel back so this doesn't happen again, but don't use it on the wheel bolt themselves.

Regards,

James R.

Default electrolytically rusted on. You need to whack it hard all the way around the circumference of the

tire/wheel. Kick it with your foot. It will come off. No need to hit the wheel itself, just keep rotating and kicking the tire until it lets go.

before you put the rotated wheel back on, hit the hub with a wire brush to remove as much scale and loose rust as possible, and then add a very slight amount of grease to the contact area. This will help prevent a freeze-up occuring next time.

Crack all the wheel bolts one turn with the car on the ground. Release the E brake and role the car a few feet. It will break loose. Jack it up and remove/replace.

Default That's the way I do it. A few months ago some idiot kept telling me I was wrong. It's recommended in

this months Popular Mechanics by an SAE mechanic to do the this technique.

Lower the jack slightly and let the weight of the car break the bond.
