How long do K04's tend to last, both under stock K03 chip programming and stg 3 programming?

I looked for one that had some of the critical non-engine components done (most critically, the Stasis tranny rebuild and RS4 Clutch, and the exhaust) and that was owned by someone who took reasonable care of it. It also had the control arms, the DV's, etc.
I'm going the same route: Stage 3-, doing K04's, 5bar fuel, 3- ecu, the mounts, and the basic pipes (piggies and bi-pipe). Add in the needed new summer tires, along with a set of winter tires/wheels, and it'll still be $5-$6k additional for me, and I already have the trans/clutch! Assuming you find a good example in the $11-13k range, I now see how turnkey Stg 3's with brakes and suspensions can save you some $$. The flip side is you know every thing you do to a non-Stg 3 car, so I feel I'll understand each mod as I work up a little better.
See how long I can live with it that way.

The liklihood of finding a well-maintained car that has busted snails and the owner just couldn't afford to finish the project is pretty small. If the owner couldn't afford the turbo job than think about all the other **** he probably skimped on.
I would find the best-maintained car you can find that's being offered for a reasonable price and go from there. Save a stash of cash in the event the turbos fail, or in the event you just can't stand to have any less than 400hp =)
You can run K04s on stock or Stage 1/2 software without issue.
