How long does a synthetic oil change last?- Time not Miles
#12
No, what I'm saying is that I have only driven 2k miles in the last 6 months. So, what I'm asking..
Since I drive so little, and since it's been 6 months, do I wait until I hit 3k miles or do I change it cause it's been 6 months?

It will probably last a very long time...
But why try? Oil is cheap. Even synthetic oil is cheap. At least in North America it is. :-)
When the manufacturers first came out with synthetic they suggested long change intervals. They withdrew those recommendations because it voided manufacturer warranties and they did not want to accept liability if there was a problem.
But in truth, the oil will probably last a very long time. The only way to know for sure is to get it analysed.

That's why I change so often even with synth - it's cheap; usu. no more than a tank of gas for DIY
oil change. It is likely overkill, but it's also cheap insurance. Can't hurt to change it too often (unless you crossthread either the filter or drain plug, that is).
