Default How long does it take the dealer to resurface rotors?...

I dropped my car off for the 30k mile service at 9:30am and they told me (at 3:30pm) that they need the car overnight because the rotors have to be resurfaced. Does it really take that long? Sheesh.

Also, is it common practice to replace the pads on the brakes after a resurfacing?? Should I ask for that?

I should have planned ahead and just purchased some aftermarket slotted rotors and Mintex pads. But this is all under warranty so it's free.

Default you should be getting new rotors...

these resurfaced ones will warp even faster now that they are thinner....

demand new ROTORS!

Default Well, once the rotors are off the car...20 minutes for the set.

Problem is...if it's 3:30, and you're JUST starting to work on the car...and you determine that the rotors need to be resurfaced...

Oh hell, they should still be able to get it done...chances are they haven't even put the car on the lift yet.

Or go to another dealer. Some have policy not to resurface rotors.

Default I asked about getting new ones and they said AofA wouldn't approve because...

there is "sufficient depth remaining" to be resurfaced.

I was thinking of staying cheap since it's free to have the dealer do whatever and then just take the car back once they warp again.

WHich rotors do you recommend? The DBA slotted? Mintex pads? Total cost? Hmmmm....

Default That's odd...this dealer said AofA instructed them to resurface...

I wonder why some dealers would differ from others.

BTW, I'm on vacation in Chicago and this dealer is McGrath Acura/Audi in Glenview, IL.

Try another dealer. They don't really talk to each other.
