Default How long have you driven on siren/whistling turbos?

Finally got a GIAC X chip and of course the next day my passenger turbo sounds like a siren. It's definitely not a dentist drill sound. It's only between 2-3k rpms, louder when cold, and the engine drowns out the noise under boost or over 4k. My 02 has 107k miles on it and turbos where whisper quiet before...*sigh*. I'm somewhat nervous because next week i'm driving from Minnesota to bozeman, to seattle, to whistler canada, across to banff, and back. It will be about 5000 miles roughly. We either take my car or drive a crappy old neon. K04's are in the near future, but would you continue to drive this road trip? Oil consumption hasn't changed, mobile1 0w40 every 5k. New TBB and 710n are in and i'm getting it pressure tested this weekend before I leave. I'm thinking stay out of boost and I will probably be OK.

Default Stop being so paranoid and drive it. What did you expect would happen when chipping

You're doubling the boost that was intended, they're going to whine a bit.

Default 0 miles.

I'm curious as to what that sound your talking about is. How loud is it? Could it be heard from outside the car?

I'd drive. It is totally possible to drive a S4 with out going into boost.

Default It's definitly the turbo spooling up and down. It's audible when cold

but when the car is warm and the radio is on at a medium level, you can barely hear it. At full boost, you can somewhat hear it if you listen. I know this is just stupid paranoia. It's impossible to tell when the turbo lady will come I know. The girl that's riding shot gun was looking at me when I first heard it and asked what I was listening for. I said my turbo sounds a lot louder than it used to. She said "can't you just shut it off then?" I laughed. I love women....

Default I know. I just needed someone to tell me to STFU and drive it.

I completely aware that doubling the boost is going to decrease the life of the turbos. I'm more paranoid of being stuck in the Canadian rockies with a dead S4. Of course nobody can tell when or if that will happen. Thanks Nigel

Default if you had the true dentist drill, your engine would not drown out the sound....

when i had a k03 pop, i could hear the siren over my twin1 and open air element. also, it didnt go away when the car got warm.

Default if its cold its just the chip. Mine does it before it warms up through 1 & 2nd gears

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/2398015.phtml for reference, just do a quick search, there is lots on this. Don't worry, just drive

I've had the whistle when turbos are cold for 10K. You'll be fine.
