i just had my rear bumper repainted and i was told to wait about 2-3 weeks before waxing it.
how could 3-6 months be required for paint and clearcoat to setup?
really seems too long.

You can do it as soon as the volatile vapors leave the paint, most of the Armourfend guys say it's just a matter of days. I was skeptical, but after two jobs they did for me, I have to say they're right--no paint hazing at all.

the clear bra is streched before being applied to the car. a little bit different from waxing. you want to make sure that the paint is harden so that the clear bra doesn't actually "pull it" from the car.
