I can't nearly afford the BBS wheels I want, the chip, exhaust, and everything else.
They ought to tell you up front that if you can't swing another $500 a month in upgrades, you can't afford an S4

My rule of thumb when buying cars is to multiple the purchase price by three. Your yearly salary should be equal or greater than this number.
2001 Santorin/Onyx

....don't buy a car that is more than 50% of one years gross income. Others say that car payments shouldn't be more than 20% of your take home pay after all of your bills. Others are less conservative, and say buy the car you like as long as the payment isn't uncomfortable. But it really depends on you current situation. (Kids, House, Single, Married, Future Salary potential.)
I don't mind spending money on cars. I feel that i get more enjoyment out of a car than someone who sees it as just an appliance. However, i won't shoot myself in the foot and extend my budget to afford a car. I think that if you do that, you will regret it down the road. 5 Years is a long time to be scratching to make a car payment. IMHO.
With that said, i think that 50% of one years gross income is a pretty good measure for the maximum i would spend on a car.

You're payment can not be more than 1/4 of your take home pay. AOA has 30 days to review after you drive off with the car to take it back! They tried 3 times during the first month with my A4 (asked me to return it to the dealer), because my dealer screwed up,(should've sold me the Passat that I wanted in the first place), but then took a loss and financed the thing for me anyway. The rest is classified, I could tell you, but then............
