How prevalent are these Y-pipe, BPV problems?

How prevalent are these Y-pipe, BPV problems?
I've heard some stories on this forum about cracked Y-pipes and low-performing bypass valves. How many of you guys are actually having trouble with these items? Do a lot of you replace the BPVs straight off the assembly line? I'm having some strange power-serge issues at around 3500 and am wondering if they are related to the bypass valves.
