How to tell if snow tires are worn?
It's my 3rd season with my Pilot Alpins (carried over from a previous BMW). It's my first set and I've driven probably 15K easy highway miles on them.
I know, see if they've lost traction in the snow but there's been very little this season.
Is there any way to tell if I should get a new set for next season?

If they're 3 season's old you should consider replacing them. The rubber
compound loses elasticity over time due to a chemical reaction involving the sulpher used in the vulcanizing process. Elasticity is especially imporant for winter tires.
How much tread is left on them?

I wasn't sure if these snows have the outer "soft" layer...
that wears away and leaves you with all-seasons like the Blizzaks of years past.
I have quite a bit of tread left. I haven't measured its depth but the siping is still visible.
