I am sure you all know this but auid recommends (pays for) oil changes every 7500 miles or 6 months?

I bet Audi's engineers didn't have much to say about the service interval. The bean counters said "what is the maximum amount of time the engine can go without an oil change to keep it running for 50000 miles?". the engineers told them 7000 or 10000 miles and the rest is history. Car companies engineer stuff to fail after their responsibility to repair it ends. it's called planned obselence and almost every company that makes anything in the world does it. no one wants their stuff to last forever, because then you wouldn't need to buy anything from them again. if they make it last just long enough so you feel you didn't get ripped off, then they can get you to buy another thing from them! Audi is no different. if you want to take the best care of your car, you could change the oil every week!
Audi is trying to run a profitable business and if they had to change the oil of every car they made every 3000 miles, it would cost them a lot more money!

therefore IF the oil filter missed something which IS more likely to happen if it is dirty than FOD COULD occur. I was being somewhat sarcastic about the blown turbos but...

Its well documented that the 3000 mile requirement was a fabrication of the oil companies. Audi had to change from 7500 to 5000 precisely to prevenet people from changing their oil early! People were falling for the marketing BS and changing at 3000 miles, when the initial oil needs to sit in the engine longer than that!
Its a law of averages thing. If the average engine could make it 50,000 miles changing every 10,000 miles, that means (on the bell curve), lots will go a lot longer, but JUST AS MANY won't make it to 50,000 miles. Audi isn't going to want to replace engines to save $50 in oil over the length of the warranty on a few tens of thousands of cars. Even the suggestion is so rediculous its laughable.
Hell, lots of cars these days have scheduled maintennace even long apart than that! 10,000 miles is nothing! Engines are so much better made then they were 30 years ago, you don't get the kind of metallic grit in the oil that necessitates changing it frequently.

They recommended 6,000 miles, at a minimum. And synthetic lasts significantly longer than dino juice. I usually do 6,000 to 8,000 with Mobil 1.
