I brought my car to jiffy lube and they threw on mobil 5w30, but

I thought that our cars take 5w40? which one is the right oil, and they also keep insisting that the oil should be changed 7k-10k miles the w/ synthetic. I've been changing it every 3 thousand miles, because I heard from somebody here that that it's better for the engine and for the turbos, is it really?

I change every 5k with synthetic. 5w30 should be ok for winter in cooler climate.

Next time, ask them to put the oil in the engine instead of on the car.

Both are fine, and follow the manual on oil changes. Its not 3k, thats just ridiculous.

interesting that they actually said 7-10k and not 3k to get more business.

warm-ups and cool-downs are just as important as the oil and changing it.

many use M1 0w40, 5w40 and other oils for 7500 miles and have had it tested to be fine. 5k is a good happy medium, imo.

hope they had the right oil filter and didn't just not replace it.

DIY. definitely one of the first things that anyone with a car should do.
