Haven't driven the STi, but...
...from driving my wife's WRX, my impressions are that the steering is *much* better than the S4's -- lighter, and much more communicative. The seats aren't leather (or heated), but they are much better bolstered for actual performance driving -- they feel a lot like the Recaros in the B6. And yes, the gearbox isn't perfect, but it kills the stock S4 box -- which is really what you should compare it to, right?

he pretty much did,
he had a sick a4 before red rs4 conv, red leather interior, t-28 ..he bit up on that car for 5 years or so .. but was always good.(better)
