AMS/ABT sepcifically. do they just flash your ECU or solder a chip and take out the stock one. if they do, what do they do with the stock chip. it sure as heck was not returned to me (that is of course, unless they flash it). and don't tell me to open up the ECU and look, mmmkay?

I had my chip installed with a reusable socket so I can place the OE chip in for service etc... This was a $50 option as opposed to the permanently soldered option.
Removing it requires taking the ECU out and unscrewing the four screws holding the metal cover on. After that, one must carefully pull the chip off of the circuit board. (The chip is held on the board by a series of low insertion force pins similar to computer equipment jumpers) The old (or new) chip is simply lined up, with the label facing the same way as the previous chip, and carefully pressed back into the board.
Hope this helps,
