I had vacillated between betting the A6 2.7T and the S4 because of my concerns about headroom. I'm 6'2" but only have a 32 inch inseam so most of my height is carried in my torso. I play on a men's volleyball team and have the same torso length as our 6'10" middle hitter. (We volleyball players spend a lot of time comparing size .
I've had lots of trouble with all kinds of cars (Japanese especially). I can't fit in my friends Acura TL because even though there is more than enough seat travel, my head sticks up through the open sunroof unless I slouch big time.
I spent a lot of time playing with my A4 to find a way to fit just right, but I was able to do it. I got very nervous when I heard that the sport seats took away another inch of headroom, but I found that the changes from my 98 A4 to the 00 S4 made up for it. Additional steering wheel travel means that I can tilt up the front part of the seat, tilt back the back and still reach the wheel comfortably (remember short legs = short arms) this also lets me have the seat farther back in the travel which positions it a little lower and at the point of the roof's greatest height.
Don't get me wrong, it's still snug, but my hair doesn't touch the headliner (on even the worst of hair days, so there's none of that yucky static feel or pulling. i don't have to slouch and the lumbar support is much more advanced so that even when I do, I can keep my lower back supported so it won't cramp. I'm really impressed, and in the end, glad I didn't get the A6, because I was really looking forward to the tighter S4 with the (much) better suspension.
Good luck

Tommy
Glad you fit well in the car. I am also 6'2" with a 32 inseam, and I have just ordered a Santorin/Onyx S4. I was concerned somewhat about the sunroof - and the static feel of my hair touching the liner - but I like your solution. I have the seat in my current 3 series set up the same way, but without a moveable steering column it is not as comfortable as the S4 will be.
