I was just offered a new 2005 Volvo S60R for $11K under MSRP
Like the subject says, I was just offered a new 2005 S60R at $11K under MSRP. I am coming from a 2001.5 S4 6-speed and have been in the market for an Audi A3 or a Volvo S40 T5 and wasn't even considering cars in the price range of the S60R.
Well, that's until one of the dealerships offered me their last 2005 S60R for $11K under MSRP. I flipped!!!
I couldn't even say I'd take it, cause it's a scary thought. The only 2 things holding me back are:
1) The price is still kind of high in comparison to what I was looking for.
2) The exterior of this car is silver and the interior is the sandy beige color. I don't love either one of these colors.
Still... Should I let this opportunity pass by? Is this deal something Volvo usually offers? I mean, I am getting good deals on the 2005 S40's too, usually invoice or even below, but not as good as the S60R.
How do the S60R compare to the S4? I know performance-wise, they're very similar. Volvo is usually safer and more reliable than Audi and I have one less turbo to worry about. But what about handling? I've read it's not as sharp as the S4 or the M3, but not sure if they're referring to B5 or B6. I've also read the shifter is not as smooth.
What do I do??!?!?! I need to decide SOON!

They're giving them away. One woman at work just picked up a red one.
I must say, it looks impressive. The brakes feel good, and it handles well, though still a bit soft.
While I did not like the look of the "joystick ball" shifter, the shifts were short and smooth.
Turbo lag is nominal, but not quite as smooth as my old S4.
I kinda liked the blue faced guages.
I had gone in to look at the Volvo V8 SUV, but the S60 R did catch my eye. Then one of the grils pulled up with one at work...
But, at the end of teh day, I ended up with an '04 S4...I just can't shake the four rings....

4-Door Euro sports sedan with awd, turbo and a 40K price tag, sounds a lot like the B5 S4 to me.
C&D got 5.5 0-60, 14.0 in the 1/4, .88g on the skidpad and said it was in the same "league" as the S4 and M3, albeit on the softer side. The suspension is very high-tech and most of the bugs seemed to be worked out from 04. And if you don't care about the warranty, there are some good start up tuner companies(Svenske Racing) working on some very impressive kits for the car, upwards of 400 whp I believe. Check out swedespeed for details. Like others said go drive it.
