Here's what Stoptech's website claims:
"StopTech's hats and brackets are made with a special type of billet aluminum that was designed for the AeroSpace industry in the United States. The German TÃœV were so impressed with the durability of these parts during testing that they replicated the bracket and repeated the test with a steel imitation of our part. The steel version failed early.
Hats and brackets are machined to ISO standards at StopTech's manufacturing facility in Torrance, California, using the latest CNC machines that feature active tooling."
I run the 993TT Big Reds from ECS and have done so for over 45K miles in deep Sierra snow, Midwest salt (lived 10 mins away from a massive Morton Salt factory that pumped out that crap), and NE pothole'd winters. I've never had an issue.
ECS states they use: "OEM Porsche 993 Twin Turbo Rotor Rings with custom ECS Tuning 7075T6 Billet Aluminium rotor hats."
What's the difference in materials used?

I have several friends with stoptechs and every one has taken it up the a$$ paying for replacement parts that should not have had to be replaced imho. I have one friend running a brembo kit through NE winters on a DD with 165K+ miles, and he's had not a single issue with the hats or brackets.
The stoptech kits work great when new, but long term reliability sucks. I'm sure they'll have a response along the lines of "it's an aftermarket part intended for racing...blah blah blah", but whatever their reasoning is, it doesn't matter because there is a competitor out there that does offer something that is equally reliable on the track and the street.

they said I had the older style hat and it wouldn't be a problem in the future. Well guess what you hat is the kind I just bought. I guess I need to take them off this winter so they don't see salt.
