I looked in the manual but didn't see anything about required warmup & cooldowns.....

It actually said to not let it warm up at idle. Which is it? Maybe I missed a section in the manual that deals with it.

Let the car warm up before you give it madd boost. Drive easily for 3 or 4 minutes to warm it up -- wait until the water gauge is straight up or the oil gauge comes off the peg.
For cool down, it can be pretty short if you haven't been driving the snot out of it (say, at the track). Drive easy for the 3 or 4 minutes before you stop, and idling for 10 to 60 seconds should be more than sufficient.

is fine. Just don't boost into it until the oil temp has raised a bit. Just don't turn the car on and start dragging! Let the engine warm itself up while driving.
As for cooldown, if you DON't cool it down. You will experience cooked oil clogging in your turbo oil lines. It's up to you to chance it. I've driven turbo cars now for a long time and believe me if you wish, so do as you will.
Sorry, just a bit groggy and upset right now.

After running these naturally hot running beyatches hard (spooling turbos), you'll want to get her settled back to a "moderate temp" before just turning off the key and walking away on a scorching day with the hood closed.
When I say cool down is more important, I don't mean it is okay to romp WOT out of your driveway on a Minnesota winter morning either. Easy driving on a just started engine is fine and much more okay then just shuting off and walking away from your freshly romped S.

The warm up seems to be more important...people jumping on the throttle before engine temps are up...may have contributed to some of these blown turbos.
