Default Just out of curiousity,

how does the Gtech compare to actual track numbers?

and your G's across the powerband should overlap with your torque curve right? Does the Gtech give you torque #'s? is it possible to do torque versus RPM?

Default G tech just displays real-time G's...

...so you can watch the G's reduce as the RPMs climb, match a specific G to a speed in a gear and then compare the G's produced at that same speed in another gear. That's how I came up with the shift points in the my post linked below. That was on a Stage II S4 with an older version of APR software.

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/467353.phtml</a

Default You figure with about 400lb/tq + you have to use it to your advantage. To many people are stuck on

hp numbers. Although, they both have their pro's and con's. For the S4, due to its tiny turbos, torque is our advantage. I'm willing to bet that the same holds true for the RS4 turbos. Granted you'll shift in the 6K range, but you most likely won't benefit from going to redline.

Default I'll test your theory on the torque band next time

I get to the track. I understand staying in the power band, but if you short shift when the RPMs drop on the next gear, doesn't that get you below the power band?

The "power band" is way wider than the rpm spread between gears.

Default Yes; and he's forgetting *power* under the curve..

hp is still torque * rpm.

and *WHEEL* torque is hp * gearing

No matter what your gearing, you still have more WHEEL TORQUE at high engine rpm than lower rpm; measuring engine torque alone does not yield you shift points until you take rpms into account.

IF you short shift, YES it is due to torque, but only insofar as you have enough torque to make up for the fact that you just lost a few krpms.

Default But KAOS has shown with dozens of consistent runs that short shifting an K03 car is faster than

winding it out. The turbos just fall on their faces above 6,000 so the 6,000 to 7,000 run is just wasting time.

Default And I'm SURE that if you investigated the area under the POWER curve..

.. you would find that his shift points are more optimal than running it out to redline.

I'd guess your shift points would be different, for the tip
