I notice lately that my voltage is barely above 12V while the engine is running.

It won't cost anywhere near as much as the core charge to ship the piggies...
Even I didn't pay that much and I had to ship international. I paid around $100. Core charge is $300
Also, it's not hard at all to replace the alternator, DIY FTW.

It cost me almost $200 to ship 2 wheels to the mainland.
I've been quoted over $150 to ship an exhaust to Hawaii and it typically costs more to ship out of Hawaii then it does to ship to Hawaii.

Just replaced mine...same symptoms leading to slow death of the alt.
Once the alternator meter finally flat-lined, I was able to operate the car for about 2 hours with the headlights on, followed by about 3 hours' of daytime driving (approximately 12 cold starts).
At around 11 volts, all the warning lights came on spontaneously along with the audibles. As the battery voltage dropped below about 10 volts, the headlight igniters strobed the xenon bulbs when trying to turn the headlights on. Then at about 9 volts the instrument cluster dials freaked out and eventually flat-lined.
Once that happened I had one more start and about 15 minutes of drive time. Then the engine finally lost power and all systems shutdown. Using my `jump pack' I was able to charge the cars' battery at a rate of about one start and 3 miles per 15 minutes of charge.
I must admit, after the alternator finally died, I continued driving it just to see how long the car could run on battery alone. I have the 85Amp OEM battery. I was impressed that the car ran so long after the alternator died.
