I should know this. Can TIP trannies handle Stage 3 power, or is L10 required?

It's more people posting answers as "fact" on subjects they really don't know about.
Not really defending the TIP. People come to forums like this looking for answers. Then people jump to give them misinformed answers, answers based on zero fact. I just hate to see people "thinking" they know the right answer and in fact got no real answer at all.
You don't see me defending some of the other topics simply because I have done little or no study on them. I sit back and try to sort fact from fiction.

at this point at least. The problem is more that we don't know what exactly the "rating" is telling us.
For example, it could be:
-Transmission will explode beyond this rating
or
-Lifespan will shorten from 1 Million miles to 200,000 miles (or some other set of numbers;-)
or
-We simply rate it low so that people don't put more through it and it makes our lawyers and accountants happier.
We do know that there are cars out there putting 400ish lbs of TQ to the WHEELS and the trans is working fine. (so the crank # should be much higher)

Non of the " I heard of this guy once" stuff.
Really! Point us to the HP/TQ failures.
I have read EVERY AW/AZ and other posts on the topic, I have talked to a dozen or so transmission shops and half a dozen Audi techs. So far I have not found one single shread of proof that the tip can't handle the power....it is ALL myth, rumor and attitude at this point.

I understand where you are coming from but there is no way a stock tiptronic transmission will handle a properly running Stage III engine for long. Yeah, you may get some miles on it but in regards to long-term reliability, it is a ticking time bomb. The L10ers are starting to get more miles on their transmissions (myself included) and the thing has only gotten BETTER for me personally. The trans now has seen extremes of 98 degree heat with a heatsoaked engine to 10 degrees with snow.
It all boils down to if you want to take the risk. IMHO, if you go stage III, at some point in time (sooner than later) you WILL be upgrading the tiptronic internals.

Why pay for an upgrade until we know exactly what we need to upgrade?
I am stage 3- at this point and ready to push it further in the effort to find out EXACTLY what fails. But honestly the more power I put through the trans, the better it feels!
