Default I want to Sea Foam and send my oil out for analysis without wasting an oil change...

Since changing the oil after using Sea Foam is recommended and I'm assuming that Sea Foam in the oil would throw the lab results off, I've been trying to figure out the easiest (and cheapest) way to do both without having to waste an oil change.

Blackstone recommend that you take a sample from the middle of draining the oil, so I thought I'd drain into a clean container and take a sample. Then I'll put the oil back into the engine, add the Sea Foam and top off the oil as needed.

After driving around for a hundred miles or so, I'd do a full oil change.

Have I overlooked anything here? Is there a simpler way of doing this?

WTF? Oil is cheap. Don't put used oil back in.

Default Instead of doing all that I'm just going take a sample with a hose via the dipstick tube.

Then I can Sea Foam and change the oil normally. Blackstone mention the dipstick method, so it should provide a good sample for them.

In reference to what DAP said below, it's not like the oil magically becomes worse after you drain it. Plus I don't consider using ~$35 worth of oil for a hundred miles to be cheap. Anyway, I'll be avoiding all of that by doing it this way.

Default How much did you pay for your car? In comparison, $35 is cheap.

A new engine is a lot more than $35. Too much can happen to the oil as it drains (added debris and foreign particles, etc).

Its your car though. I'm just saying that I'd never even consider for a second putting used oil back in my car.
