Default Ice clogged wheel wells lead to unbalanced car?

Spent bit of time driving in the mountains the last few days and the wheel wells became clogged with ice and frozen compacted snow. It was -4 F in Lafayette this morning and I ended up breaking a long handled snow scraper and then using a screw driver to break out all the ice and frozen snow. In places it was so thick that the tire had only a small clearance. Further investigation showed that ice was caked onto suspension components The car has an unsettling wobble at speeds over 55 even with most of the ice and snow gone. Very unbalanced. Goes into the shop on Thursday, see what the damage is. I am assuming this is not a problem that will fix itself. Also my shocks are seeming a little tired at 63k, is it time for new ones???

Yep. More weight added to the wheels without any balance will cause lots of vibration.

Default So, does this mean that if I get every last little bit of ice and snow

out of the wheel wells the car will return to its balanced state? Or is this ANOTHER trip to the shop???

Default Snow in WHEEL WELLS won't cause problems...only snow on the wheels themselves.

You'd be surprised how rough things can get. My Jeep ends up feeling like one of those vibro-beds.

Default If the snow is packed on the wheels, cleaning them will help. If the packed snow knocked one of your

weights off, then it's back to the shop.

Default Yeah...

Last winter, after having some fun in the snow, I thought my car was going to shake itself apart at anything above 40mph. Drove to a self-wash bay and pressure washed the wheels and all was good again.

Default Use a pressure washer but be careful of the wheel weights

I've blown them off with the washer (DOH!) and had to get the wheels rebalanced.
