Default Yeah, nothing major like those things but you can change engine idle speed, ABS stuff I think, and

other dumb things like gas mileage computer calculations, etc. Even though these are realtively harmless I just get paranoid that the dealer is going to void my warranty.

Default Service writers at the dealership have a few roles: scheduleing, customer service, (more)

sales (of service), but being technical is not what they are hired to do.

You're chipped, I'd be FAR more worried about that than about VAG-COM.

Default Some times they're former techs...

...I have a good friend that used to be a mechanic at a local Chevy dealer. She got tired of wrenching and moved into a service writer position.

Especially since they explicitly void it.

Default Yeah, but they don't know that. Whenever I take it in for service it has the stock ECU. So, I'm...

talking about using VAG-COM with them on the stock ECU. In other words, chip aside.

You're fooling yourself if you think thats enough to keep them from knowing its chipped.

Default George, You give the dealerships WAY TOO MUCH CREDIT

From what I have gathered from "my" local dealer, most of the guys that work there work at a dealer for the benefits, and are fresh out of Tech school and Audi school. Mostly clueless, and doing warranty work, by replacing entire systems, rather than really troubleshooting.

And I don't think they have enough time on there hands to do some Columbo-dectective work, like looking for "low-voltage" codes, inspecting the ECU, or the screws, or the weather-stripping.

Yes, CERTAIN things like Bipipe, cat-back, and DPs are obvious.....but you remember the place in Natick threatened S4MadMan to yank his warranty over 18inch rims?

Audi has done a good job in destroying their customer service and technical reputation in my eyes.

So, back to the point. Do they have a clue? no. Do they know how to determine if you have been chipped? not if the S4 owner has read my chipping FAQ ;-)
