You are recoding the instrument cluster module, not the engine control module. Therefore, you have three options:
1) Ship your vag-com to the person requiring the recode
2) Have that person ship their instrument cluster to you
3) Or three, tell them to stop being a cheapskate and to just buy a vag-com cable

FWIW i read the wiki site and searched before asking this question.
I didn't know if the cluster informatin was stored in the cluster or in the ECU - call me stupid - not an electrical engineer.
