What kind of benefits are you seeing compared to M1 or other synthetics? I noticed that when
I switched from regular oil to M1 synthetic, the engine now reaches idle rpm of about 800 much quicker and it also revs smoother. The only other reason I can think of going up to a better synthetic is if it reduces oil temps for semi-hard driving.

My oil temps did not change BUT...
When I first bought the S4 I did research, mostly based on archive searches on AW and talking to people here, and chose Mobil-1 0W-30. But later I learned that Mobil-1 0W-30 doesn't meet the strict A2 requirement for the S4 so again, based on recommendations here, I switched to Amsoil 0W-30. I'm not going to lie to you and tell you I'm mechanic or an oil or turbo expert, because I'm definitely not. I just go by the specifications in my manual and suggestions of the generally knowledgeable people here. I haven't noticed anything about my car at all that's better or worse between Mobil-1 and Amsoil, but then again I'm not modded nor do I track my car. But still, for spirited driving (especially in the hot summer), I want a top quality oil in my car. And I've always been a big believer in frequent oil changes. So even though I'm using a good synthetic which supposedly can be left in for much longer than petroleum based oil, I like to change it frequently. Because even if the oil itself hasn't broken down, I still want to get whatever particulate and impurities that are in there out. Wish I had a better answer for you, but that's basically it. I wanted a synthetic 0W-30 oil that meets ALL the specs in my manual, and Amsoil fits the bill. There may be others out there but I don't know. Some posters here on AW claim that Mobil-1 0W-40 meets all the specs, should lubricate better, and is cheaper. I can't confirm or deny that, since I'm sticking with 0W-30. Maybe others will respond and they can advise you better. I doubt you can go wrong with any of the popular oils that are talked about here. Just my humble opinion.

Don't understand why Amsoil says...
Change interval is 3 times mfg's recomm. interval or 6 months whichever comes first. For example, could go up to 24-30k but should change at 6 mos even if mileage is much lower, say, 3000 miles. Other than stop & go city driving, why would there be such a disparity in oil quality at 6 mos?
