my buddy is looking to get a set of "piggie pipes" but I am wondering if it is better to hollow out the secondary cats or just cut and weld in a new straight piece.

correct .. the secondary 02 sensors read the efficiency of the precats .. so if
if the seconadry cats will be cut off it will not matter in sense of codes.. the performance though would not be as good as a gutted precat .
see he mentioned "stock dp's " not "piggies).

some people call the pre-cats "secondaries" since they aren't the main cat
especially when they say "on the downpipes". so where you are correct i still think he wants to weld in a straight pipe where the pre-cats go instead of piggie-fying the DPs
