Default I'm the FNG

Just picked up an 02 S4 with 39K. I'm out of manufacturer's warranty but the dealership is offering me a 4yr/48K warranty from date of purchase for $1900 that covers everything except maintenance items. Please share your thoughts on whether I should get the extended warranty and what I should expect to go wrong. Looking forward to getting to know you guys better and learning from the board. Just came from an 01 Lexus GS430.

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Default in retrospect, id avoid all warranty ish...

because nothing is really ever covered, and the extra money you spend doesnt really ever balance out with the amount you get repaired. (at least from my past experience.) and most importantly if your turbo blows, you most likely will not replace it with another k03... so take the 1900 add a lil more and just go stageIII now. imo.

Default Welcome, and prepare your wallet regardless of whether or not you get the warranty. And $1900

sounds like a good price too. Nothing can go wrong, or tons of things can go wrong. Some people here have bad luck, while others go well over 100k miles with minimal issues...

Default Buy it! Seriously $1900 is nothing, specially if you lump it into your loan...

It just gives you that little extra insurance if something bad does happen. Just be sure you are really good at hiding your mods and keeping receipts.

Default Is that an additional 4 years or 48k miles, or to 4 years 48k?

If it's not an additional than I'd say don't get it.

Default What is the name of the warranty company? I highly suggest you Google the

name of it, and see others comments before purchasing it. Many of them are serious scammers.

Default I'd maybe talk to your local Audi dealer /group and see if there are good companies in area?...

this issue comes up all the time -- there's no right answer -- but there are tons of good points made in this thread

INHO it's the "dammed if you do, dammed if you don't" situation

I think mentally preparing yourself for a massive bill is good advice -- just know there is a good chance something major comes up

I've seen some guys make out pretty well w/3rd party companies, others get denied for just having an exhaust

Regardless of what you do, start taking an active role in your maintnence -- these cars require lots of attention

let us know what you do -- my CPO is going bye- bye in several months and my K03s will prob blow the week after it expires so i'll be in a similar situation

BTW- sounds like you made a nice find - -low miles!

Default Re: I'd maybe talk to your local Audi dealer /group and see if there are good companies in area?...

thanks for the input guys. I think it was a great find. Clean carfax (for whatever that's worth) and the previous owner was a 50 something millionaire who I'm guessing just kept her in the garage. I think I'm going to have to pace myself with the mods (famous last words). I got a little crazy with the GS and I'll prob keep it stock for a while. I will check the name of the company for rep and report back.
