Default I'm kind o deterred from buying a chip after reading the horror story in one of the previous (m)

posts. It cost $20,000 for a new engine. The fact that the chip will void the warranty is a major downside. I was refered by other people that the chip will increase the engine temperature as well as increase the possibility of engine detonation. I realize audi builds a rather bulletproof engine, but if in fact the dealer figures out I had chipped my car and that was the reason it blew up I'll will be **** out of luck (driving a 2000 S4 with a new beetle engine ). I don't really know how much the deealer can figure out about the car if I swap ECU's and if something goes wrong and I swap them at the last second (If something were to go wrong). On the otherhand the reason I'm so interested in the chip is the obvious POWER gains! Sorry for the long post, but I need help in this issue and want to make sure that my car stays an S4, not a S-Beetle...

Thanks
Michael Tracy

Default Mike...that signature pic is a bit large

First off...Bimo huh? Yes they are nice..I got them too.

Second, you might want to consider decreasing it in size to about 1/6 or 1/8 of its current size.

Thanks.

Default well said....chipped S4's read on .....(more)

The chip does give the car some bigger Kahunas. But for the money that one pays to get the chip, I don't think it is worth it. Why are BMW chip much cheaper than the Audi chips?
The difference between a stock and a chip S4 is quite obvious but to spend over $1500 for the chip, intake, and exhaust so that the car's 1/4 times are increased by 0.4 seconds is not very justifiable by my books. To be honest, even if I had that extra money lying around, I would still be hesitant in that purchase. The better purchase would be the coil-over springs.
Kevin, I love the stance of your car. I think this will be my next modification. I hold back on the chip for the time being.
Just for your information, I've now raced both the Garret and the MTM chip S4s. By the experience that I've had, the MTM seem smoother and stonger. The difference is quite obvious, but nothing too dramatic.
If both cars are moving at the same speed and launch together, the chipped S4 will slowly inch ahead. The MTM S4 can slowly inch ahead of my Stock S4. I was told that my S4 was pretty quick for stock standards. Those of you that own a chip, please don't take this post as a "chip bashing". I will eventually get a chip, but not at this moment. Once the Chip has been modified, I might consider the installation.
2000 Black S4 6 Speed

Default ....makes sense to me...

Each to their own, but for me the stock S4 is quick enough. I can barely utilize what I have and still be safe and ticket free (knock on wood). However, if the factory offered more, warranted, I would be tempted...

Default Agree. The warranty issue is too much.

Plus, all the people who rant about how Audi has to "prove" that the chip was the direct "cause" of the problem, in an indisputable, empirical sense, in my opinion are substantially overstating the law. Audi doesn't need to prove anything to deny a claim. If they deny a claim, all you can do is hire a lawyer and either go to arbitration or file a suit, which will end up costing several thousand dollars itself.
In any case, I don't believe that Audi needs to prove that the chip caused a turbo problem in the way that I see people here claim. All Audi has to do is introduce evidence (a) that the car was chipped; (b) that the chip increased stress on the turbos beyond stock; and (c) that the turbos ultimately failed.

sorry for the large pic. Still testing for a perminant signature. Anyways I love the look of my AEZ's, as I'm sure you do. They make a drastic improvement to the look of the car. I recently had my windows tinted and will post pics soon. I went with a 35% and the look is outstanding. Now its time for some suspension upgrades!

P.S. I made the signature pic a bit smaller for you...
Michael Tracy

Default The heat issue is my biggest deterrent.

I think the S4 is a little under cooled in the stock form, adding a chip would just compound the issue. Besides, it is much easier to improve the driver to get better performance.

Take care

Default If you get yourself cornered, and chose to lie, then you are treading on criminal fraud charges.

Don't ask, don't tell is the best policy, combined with don't lie.

C'mon Greg. The Dealer plays a significant role here. Don't let them get off the hook that easily. This past August, one of the local Audi Dealers in NE hosted an event where performance shops were able to meet Audi enthusiats, especially, S4 owners.

The S4 is sold with the sex-appeal of increasing the performance. This aimed directly at the 20-30 year old TRUST-FUND crowd who just can't help themselves.
2001 Black on Black S4
