You're definitely on the right track with getting a custom tune because that's the only way to get the full potential.
I bought my car Stage III with k04/rs6 turbos running homebrew. The car would just NOT react to tweaks and the absolute best time I could running full race gas was high 3.8 Fats range. On 91, it was it would 4.0-4.1.
I've since gone with a Vast custom tune and after about 5 revisions have been able to address areas of logs (cf's, logs, knock) that we could never do on homebrew which has resulted in consistent 3.6 Fats on 91 with 21psi. On a 91/100 mixture, I was able to bust a 3.3 running the same boost.
I think you'll be in good hands w/ Avalon's tuning.
