Default Infant car seat question: Is it possible to fit a removable seat + base

into an S4 in the center/rear position without interfering with the travel of the driver's seat? Specifically, I'm thinking of the Graco Snugride or the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio units.

If you want to use the latch system, does this allow the infant seat to be placed in the middle position or does it force it to the sides?

Thanks

PS Archives were unclear on these points.

Default I believe the latch system is only for use on the sides- ->

I've had my car seats on the passenger side rear seat. In my case, it requires moving the front seat forward and removing the rear headrest.

Default I was just doing this research a few months ago

Infant seats simply dont fit in the center, unless you want to drive with your nose touching the front winshield. And I refuse to put the seat on the side because of the side-curtain air bags. (I know they say that side curtains or OK, but I dont trust who-ever says that. <- Thats your own personal choise, but Im a safety freak when it comes to my child.)

The only solution I found because of my stubborness was not to use an infant seat in my car, and just use my wifes Land Rover for traveling with my daughter. (The Land Rover is large enough in the rear to place the infant seat in the center, even the Britax).

I can't tell you 100% if you can use the latch system on the side, but I found that the latch system serves one purpose only on infant seats, to prevent front to back rocking in the case of a quick stop/accident). We bought the Britax, because it has a bar which makes the latch straps unneccesary, in addition to its solid build - may want to look into that if the latch system wont work.

PS - it is really difficult to get straight answers to fitment/latch applications. I ended up calling Land Rover USA, and Britax multiple times to get a consistent answer. Good luck

Default You can do this but "officially" the teathers are for either left/right attachment.

I do not know if you will compromise the strength of the LATCH bars if you mount the teathers to both. Play it safe and put them behind the passenger seat if there is a room issue.

Default I have a Graco base in the S4 & it's been fine. I used the center lap belt to attach.

Default I could fit a Graco rear facing in the middle, but it was really tight btwn the seats.

I used the two side latches for middle placement and felt fine with that.

Default Is there much difference in size between the Peg Perego and Graco detatchable infant seats?

That is, regarding how much room they occupy in the car once installed.

Thanks for the replies

Default How tall are you? I have a Roundabout in the center now.

I am 5' 11" and fit just right. The roundabout is as big as it gets for rear facing. My 8 month old boy is 25 lbs!!!

The LATCH brackets do work for the center.

Default Weird, I tested that seat

at the store in my car and it felt way too tight for me. Felt like I was eating the steering wheel.

Default Peg Perego is more narrow. European seats are not as wide as american.

Someone will be able to sit behind the driver. The pass will fit someone skinny but their seat belt is hidden under the seat.
