Default Info on MTM chip ...

Would like to go with the MTM chip, however, I'm unsure as to whether
it it a "socketed" affair or is soldered directly to the PCB (still waiting for
a response from MTM, though I thought I'd ask here anyway ...). Ideally,
I'd like *not* to have to buy an additional ECU when the need arises to
bring the car into the dealer, and would much prefer to swap chips without
having to fire up the soldering iron.

Regards,
Steve

When I corresponded with Hoppen Motorsports, they mentioned
"arrangements can be made to return the factory chip". Don't quite
know what that entails - probably a few bucks. Seems to me one
could get the factory chip back, install a socket (looks to be a
common DIP arrangement), and simply swap chips when needed.
Would probably take just a few minutes to wick up the solder on
the MTM chip and solder in the socket. I just can't see paying
$500 needlessly on an extra CPU to simply exchange a chip.
I understand the APR offering is socketed (smart, very smart),
however I'm sold on the MTM.

Steve

Unsocketed. Sockets a BAD idea in cars!

I can understand that thermal expansion/contraction can be an issue
with a socketed chip, but I wonder how the APR chip is holding up for
those folks in areas of considerable temperature swings.
