Default Installing a chip yourself?

Anyone here do this or has everyone had to have the ecu shipped out. I searched but couldnt find a writeup on it. I have a GIAC chip. I pulled my ecu last night but it seems as though the stock chip is soldered in. I bought the chip used off a kid who didnt know a thing. I was on awe's website. I see they keep talking about this socket. Can anyone clarify?

If you don't know what your doing have someone else do it so you don't fry ur ECU

Default 2nd.

if youre soldering a piggy back chip you could very well fry the board or the chip... (neither are covered under warranty from aoa or mfg of your chip). secondly, most vendors are flashing software onto ecu's nobody is really doing an actual 'chip'. (at least that im aware of.)
