Default Instead of posting about 'nam or candy bars, could I have your opinion on custom DP's.....

I can get a reputable exhaust company in town to make a turbo back exhaust including high flow cats (and pipes to replace the cats) along w/ a resonator and muffler for $1,000.

This includes 4 spots for the O2 sensors, flex pipe 2 1/4 inch downpipes to a 3 inch exhaust.

Am I foolish not to buy a production set of DP's instead of a custom job????? It's a huge cost difference, but will I like it?

Any advice would help...

Default That's expensive!!!

I have a local guy who can make a catback exhaust with mandrel bends w/ high flow cat for under 500$. And yes, this is all Stainless. If I knew about it before I purchased my exhaust, I would have gone that route.

Is your price 1K including DP? You only mention the cat-back really.

A 1-off product may not be as good as APR, Milltek, etc, how do I know they'll get it right?

Default Some things to consider

Is the proposed custom exhaust system mandrel bent?

Is it all thick wall stainless tubing?

If the answer to either of the above is no, then its probably not a good deal. I have had custom exhausts made in the past and have been disappointed. Typical muffler shop aluminized tubing is much thinner than stock or high quality aftermarket. The result is frequently a huge increase in noise and potential droning at crusing RPMs.

Also, if you live in an area that has smog testing, you may be subject to a visual inspection. Custom exhaust almost never look like factory stuff, so you would likely fail a visual inspection.

I believe that the current exhaust systems available are too expensive (except maybe the Borla) and the DPs are really overpriced. However, in my experience, there is a huge difference between a well designed system and a custom system from a local muffler shop.
