If one were involved in an accident involving no other parties, due to foul weather conditions (e.g. hitting a guardrail or pole or what not in heavy rain), would that be considered your fault, and would that raise your insurance rates?

You're SUPPOSED To be in controll of your car at all times. Ah insurance what a scam, it's really up to your company, but if they PAY out of pocket and have no one to go after to recoupe thier cost you can usually count on your premium going up.

Here in MA, you'll be found at fault and then you can challange that finding to the state insurance board. I did that, and was found not at fault for an accident between myself and a curb. It was a four pointer, too, so it was *great* I got out of it.

...by insurance whether they're really your fault or not. If you swerve to avoid hitting someone who runs a redlight and you hit a pole as a result, the accident is considered 'your fault' by the ins. companies. Messed up stuff, huh?

Yes, its your fault. The police or insurance would just tell you that its your responsibility to pull over and stop if the rain is so heavy that your not capable of driving safely.
