Default Interesting encounter with a Neon(!) last night...

I had a run-in with a Neon last night, and he actually gave me a decent race! Surprised the hell out of me, particularly since only a few hours earlier, I'd kept a C5 at bay on the freeway (granted, he had a passenger and an open sunroof/windows, but still...), and a few hours later, I beat a 330i by the typical margin of victory...does anyone know if there are aftermarket kits for those things which really, really hop up their performance? That thing was surprisingly fast, on a par with the WRX I'd raced a few weeks ago, and definitely faster than the 330i I beat later on in the evening...

I'd say he was running juice or a turbo, but he really caught me by surprise; I was actually laughing when I realized he wanted to race, but the smile quickly evaporated. :-)

Default Reminds me of a car I saw in "Hot Rod" years ago...

...some guy had taken an old, beat-up AMC Rambler, and stuck a twin-turbo big block V8 in it. That thing looked for all the world like an old junker, and it'd run 11's all day long. The ultimate sleeper.

Is "Mitch Cumsteen" the name of Chevy Chase's buddy who was "night putting" (just putting at night)?

Default Given the supercharger kits for the PT Cruiser

I would suspect some tuner out there has a kit for the Neon.. the RT version of the Neon is actually a decent little car, kind of miata like..quick, not fast, and handles pretty well.

Nope. It was an auto. Had to have been something like a turbo, supercharger, or nitrous.

That's probably it; the PT is built on the Neon platform...do you know anything else about these?

Default Found some info. This site claims that nitrous alone gets them into the mid-low 14's, which sounds

about right. I must've run into a "Fast & Furious" fan...oh, well, I still whipped him pretty good once I got into the boost, and if I'd been expecting a "real" race and actually done a "real" launch, I'd have gotten him even better, but I didn't really figure that a Neon would be worth wasting any clutch on!

Sheesh...a Neon in the 14's; who would've thought?

http://www.allpar.com/neon/performance.html</a
