Interesting quote off the passat forum about our K03's. What is the stock boost level of a 2.7t?

**"What are the pros and cons of 0.8 bar versus 1.0 bar chips?"
Well, I only know what I read. The spring `99 issue of VWPower magazine says (I've condensed it somewhat):
"The KKK K03 turbo on the 1.8T is small..... this smallness imposes some restrictions on just how much boost one can pump through the turbo. According to Turbonetics in Moorpark, California, the stock K03 is happiest at about 12 pounds of boost because of the design of the blades. Going much further doesn't produce any really usable power....The blade pitch is not designed to sustain boost beyond that threshold. This limits the 1.8T to about 200 hp with the stock K03 turbo."<ul><li><a href="http://www.clubb5.com/information/chipinfo.shtml">http://www.clubb5.com/information/chipinfo.shtml</a</li></ul>

I believe the compressor map for the K03 shows peak efficiency in the 0.5 to 1.2 bar range. But I know that the compressor map is not the sole determining factor.
BTW this may not be the map for the S4 K03s, but some variant of K03.

up producing heat which lessens the gains from additional boost and probably shortens turbo life too. I would actually be pretty interested in a 12 lb. chip (I know TAP has one but everyone is always complaining about them so I will pass on them).

Pushing more volume (into a 1.8) spins the turbo muuuuch faster to maintain the same boost.
It's not a question of how much boost you are running, it is more like how much boost @ how much mass airflow.

Since chips sometimes spike at 1.3 or higher the K03 is at its higher end of the envelope.
The .6 sounds right , had heard it was .7bar for stock.
I could be completely wrong though.

Here is PES' Supercharger on their Passat 1.8(T):

And then here it is on an A4 1.8(T):

However, it never went into production. And even with that said, yeah this guy was probably referring to the 2.8 SC
