intermitent loss of boost pressure

Possibly a boost leak which when detected puts the car in limp (5psi) mode. When you start the car
again it resets, which is why you may see 18psi again, but if it detects something wrong (boost not rising fast enough or keeping with expected values) it will flip back to limp mode or 5psi.
Do you have a VAG tool or know anyone with one to confirm what code you are seeing?
