Default Just bought my S4, what should I do with the oil

Couldn't find anything specifically about this in the archives...

I just bought a 2000 S4 with 60K on it (totally stock), dealer says they have 5w-30 in there now. Two questions:

1) I know I'm supposed to check the oil often and make sure it is full - I don't know what brand they have in there though (just that it's 5w-30). Does that matter, or should I just use any 5w-30 (like from Mobil or Redline)? I.E. is mixing brands of oil bad.

2) When I get my oil changed, should I switch to Mobil 0W-40? I live in the Bay Area (CA), so it's pretty moderate. Also, I've heard varying opinions on how often oil changes should occur, is every 8,000 good?

Thanks guys!!

Default He has every right to post this question.

Your response would actually be better if deleted, or edited in the least.

Default Sure, but a post answering this question 14 posts below indicates poster did no looking for an

answer at all before cluttering up the forum. Not the end of the world by any means, just symptomatic of not utilizing the forum efficiently.

The B5 S4 forum is one of the un-friendliest online...if you frequent, have thick skin.

Default It would do you well to read several days' worth of posts to get a feel for the forum

before posting as a noobie. The B5 S4 forum is truly unique. I like it that way, though.
