They are not forged. Period. Don't believe the semi solid forging crap. What the hell is that anyway? Is that like semi liquid casting?

underinflation of one of my tires due to a puncture. :|
They're great! I haven't heard anyone say nice things about the 18's though.

and it was damn near THEE roughest pothole/crater that i have hit in my life. i nearly **** my pants! i was sure my rim was bent; i didn't even wanna get out and look at it. i had already calculated in my mind the cost to replace it. man, was i shocked to see that it wasn't AT ALL bent...whew.
i tell you, these guys that bend these rims must be hittin' some crazy-*** quarries.

It doesn't matter if they are "true" forged or not. (For the record, semi-solid forging is different from cold or hot forging, but apparently nobody on this board knows the difference between the three.) It's only important whether they work for you.
I've got the 17"x8.5 SSR Competitions (aka Type-C) and drove about 100 miles on a 20psi tire without bending anything. They're great wheels, easy to clean, look great, and they still look OK when you haven't cleaned them for awhile. No problems in the snow; but I'm sure they're too weak if you're going to do any kind of offroading.
But with the bending stories I've heard with the 18" SSR comps, I would _never_ buy the 18s for the S4.
Don't expect any butt-dyno gains, but if you're looking for a good-looking, lightweight wheel at a good price, the 17" SSR Comp is a great choice.
Have fun!
