Default Just installed my Tonaga Short Shifter, WTF do you consider smooth shifting???

I installed mine yesterday... I throw is allot shorter which is nicer...
I played with adjusting it a bit,
my question is what do you consider smooth shifting.
When I shift, there is a considerable bit of notchyness when going threw the gears... Second require a good amount effert to get into gear...
I wish I had something to use as a standard/comparison to know how far I am off.

Don't have a SS myself but since you are shortening the lever, it should take more force to move it

Default Adjustment advice.

With clutch depressed, engine off.

Place in 2nd gear & feel the left/right play in the ****.

Place in 6th gear & feel the left/right play in the ****.

Adjust the angle until this play is equal.

Usually this means tilting the rod slightly more to the right in neutral position.

Notchiness - hard stops in the shift path that you have to push hard to get through (often a problem with 1st and Rev on mis-aligned short throw shifters)

Snickety - shifter pushes easily through the stages of gear engagement, providing good tactile feedback

Snickety is good, notchiness is bad

Adjust the two 6mm Hex bolts until it's just right. It'll take some time.

Grease it too.

It's a pain but my Strat shifter shifts as smooth as the stock.

good advice, and the most common problem is no play to the left while in 2nd

Default You just learned that you can't believe everything you read here.

I did the same mod, expecting "butter smooth shifts" and was disappointed with the notchiness. Throw is shorter, and the shifts are more accurate (no gumminess), but it is far from how smooth some made it seem to be. The motto is try everything for yourself on someone else's car before buying.
