Default (interviewer) So Mr. Cheng...how does a 996s handling compare to the S4?

Now that you've experienced...uh...a rather determined drive in the 996 (we caught some sport bikes who were doing banzi runs up the twisties)?

Default I wouldn't disagree stock for stock.....but observed track lap times

for roughly equivalent drivers on the same track are pretty darn close. I'm not sure about the ultimate comparison since I'd have to give the edge to the Porsche track drivers over S4 drivers (in general). But the the guys who started tracking their 996s a year ago aren't any faster than I am at the same track....

Default that's driver...

The 996 is up there in a performance league that it takes alot more than "a few track days" to begin to be able to handle.

Also, given the expense of the car, few drivers are going to really push it.

One has to look at all out comparison times where the driver wasn't particularly concerned about the car to see how widely they differ in raw performance.

Unless you have roll cages and it's for trophies, you are seeing driver differences FAR more than car differences. Even when we are racing (so the drivers are more determined than just lapping) we see as much as 4 seconds a lap difference between drivers of the same car on the same team.

http://home3.swipnet.se/~w-32546/nbring/laptimes%20for%20different%20cars.htm</a
