I am going to fit recaro SPG seats and was just doing some investigation on how to fit them. Looks like I will have to get a bracket welded up that fits in the sliding rails. The stock seat weighs about 60lbs. I should be able to save quite a bit of weight by replacing both seats (70-80lbs).
I have been driving around without the passenger seat and you can certainly tell the difference in acceleration and handling.

I don't see how they can lower the weight that much when you consider they put some of weight back in with various pieces of safety equipment (the roll cage alone is probably ~200 lbs)... or is 2600 lbs. the weight before they put any of that stuff in.
Do they use composite body panels and whatnot?

for instance, Taz's Integra in the Speedvision races has the floor panels cut out and carbon fiber panels inserted AND they use lightweight plexi rear windows etc...there are ALOT of weight saving tricks done beyond simply "stripping" the car like we have done with the Civic.
I don't know specifics on the Champion cars but for $120k, you can BET they spent alot of money analyzing weight...2600lbs is still VERY heavy for a race car.

Depending on weight penalties that day due to previous race results. The Istook/Aines car is just over 3,000 lbs. I was there when it was on the Intercomp scales reviewing corner weights.
