Just replaced faulty coolant temp sensor and now the coolant gauge never reaches
full operating temperature. It takes a while to creep to the tick mark right before the haflway point on the gauge. While my coolant temp gauge is struggling to move to the right, my oil temperature is even warming up faster and is fully warmed before my coolant gauge comes to a rest. Do you think a faulty sensor was installed? Any other areas to take a look at?

I recently did mine and operation was very similar before and after.
I guess it's possible the sensor is bad. Did you be sure to reinstall the o-ring? Was it dirty, cracked, bent, tarnished?
Could be lots of over things, too, I'd imagine.

Yep, my heat's good. The previous problem was that my coolant temp gauge moved all over the place,
like from fully warm, to zero, to fully warm again. Now that I've had it replaced, it takes forever to warm up and never reaches full operating temp. I'm not sure what else I should have replaced the first time I noticed it was faulty.

I was just going to post the same question.......
I have a 2000 S4 as well and my guage is doing the same thing. It takes longer to warm up and then holds somewhere between top dead center on the guage and cold. My coolant temp sensor was replaced 2years ago. I was thinking thermostat.
Where is the thermostat located and how difficult is the swap???

I'd go with a thermostat too but ...
... it might be worth replacing the sensor again, as the thermostat need the front of the car, cambelt etc.. off = big bucks and you may as well getthe water pump, cambelt, rollers etc... done at the same time.
